From the 1st of April 2022 a compulsory plastic packaging tax go in to effect, HMRC (Her Magesty’s Revenue & Customs) has announced. The legislation is due to go ahead with the aim to reduce single use plastic pollution and the reduction of plastic packaging components that have less than 30% recycled plastic. The Legislation states:
The British government could be bringing in tougher measures to tackle the harmful effects of single use plastics on the environment. Popular condiments (Ketchup, Mayonnaise and Vinegar products) are facing being banned in the UK. These measures are set to be part of ongoing measures put in place to reduce household & commercial waste that ends up at landfill or endangers marine life.
The UK has already significantly increased its efforts to recycle plastic. In 2000, 13,000 tonnes of plastic bottles were recycled. Now, over 370,000 tonnes are recycled annually. That’s a stat that really makes us smile. It’s more challenging to measure the growth of recycling worldwide, as measurement differs from country to country.
